EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-4.1.Joining your Crafting S

In the starting towns, they all have the wholesaler society. They also have 3 other
societies. Head to each one on the map to talk to the NPC there until you find one that
lets you join. That one is the craftsman society.
Inside the craftsman society tradeskill instance is no different from the wholesaler society
tradeskill instance except for a few minor changes. The quest NPC gives you quests to
craft items instead of harvest resources for 100 status. The fuel merchant sells your
craftsman and woodworking recipe books.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-4.Leveling as a Craftsman

Now that you are level 10, have a new set of buffs, and unlike the prior ones, these ones
actually make a noticeable difference while crafting. As a craftsman you can craft
furniture, boxes, wooden weapons and shields, and food/drink.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-3.1.4.Leveling Quickly

Leveling up to 10 is a very quick process. You gain bonus experience when you craft a
pristine item, and even more if it’s an item you have not crafted before. So for these
levels I’d suggest trying to craft low level items that can assist you later in either
adventuring or tradeskilling. Try to make apprentice IV (pristine) versions of some of your
key skills like Evade if you’re a scout, or taunting blow if you’re a fighter, etc. Making bags
or boxes if you don’t have any can also be useful, as well as making drink. Regardless,
as long as you keep making new items, these levels will just fly by and before you know it
you will be bordering 10 and needing to become a craftsman.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-3.1.5.Choosing the Craftsma

To become a craftsman, you have to become a level 9 artisan, then head to the Coalition
of Tradesfolke (if you’re evil) or the Ironforge Exchange (if you’re good).
The NPC you need to talk to at the Coalition of Tradesfolke is Alethea Augustine. She is
located in West Freeport on the 2nd floor of the building near the East Freeport gates.
The NPC you need to talk to if you’re good is Alfred Ironforge in Qeynos Harbor near the
building being worked on.
All they do is ask you which class you want to become, and you choose it.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-3.1.3.Tier 1 Resources

Tier 1 resources are harvested in The Isle of Refuge, Oakmyst Forest, Forest Ruins, Peat
Bog, The Ruins, The Sprawl, and Sunken City.
Harvest Node Common Resource Rare Resource
Ore Tin Cluster Bronze Cluster
Stone Lead Cluster, Rough Malachite
Copper Cluster,
Rough Lapis Lazuli
Den Deer meat, Turtle Meat, Sullied Low Quality Pelt Low Quality Pelt
Wood Severed Elm Severed Alder
Root Roots Yarrow
Shrub
Barley, Raw Pecan, Raw Basil, Raw Nutmeg,
baubleshire cabbage, black coffee bean, Jum
Jum, raw white tea leaf
Fungi
twinleaf, allspice, silverberry, birchroot, milkweed,
Juniper, birchwood, sassafras, snakeroot
Resource nodes tend to be spread out all over the newbie zones, and without much
competition so there shouldn’t be a problem finding what you’re needing regardless of
which zone you go to.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-3.1.2.Inside the Tradeskill

Now that you’ve joined your wholesaler society, you can enter the tradeskill instance.
Inside you’ll see an NPC that will give you gathering quests that reward you with 100
status, and can level your society. As of right now, these are generally a waste of time.
There is also a merchant NPC that sells your recipe books, and crafting components and
fuels. Finally, and probably the most important to note is the broker. You may find
yourself checking the broker quite often between series of crafting combines for good
deals, or to purchase more resources so you don’t have to spend time to harvest.
The Freeport tradeskill instance is just several floors of tradeskill stations on floors
stacked on each other. This can be a good place to raise safe fall if you have it, and it can
be much easier to access the station you’re trying to get to over the Qeynos side tradeskill
instances, which are laid out with a series of hallways and doors to try and get you lost.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-3.Leveling as an Artisan

This section will describe the process of leveling up as an artisan. If you did the
citizenship quest through crafting quest, then you will not have to read through this section
as you should be nearly a craftsman already. However if you already became a citizen
through adventuring, and are coming back to tradeskilling, and have absolutely no idea
how to begin, then this section is for you.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-3.1.1.Joining Your Wholesal

First thing you should do when starting to craft is to join a wholesaler society. There is
one in every starting town. You can talk to every society NPC in a starting town until one
lets you in, and through that simple process of elimination, you’ve found your wholesaler
society. Most societies are on the map, so it’s pretty easy to get to them all and find which
one lets you in.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-2.3.6.Macros

Pressing O while in game will open the Socials window, from there you can click on the
macros tab and create a macro that can use multiple abilities in a row. (first will be used,
and the next will be queued) This can be useful to free up more time allowing you to chat
with the other craftsman, or anything else you could be doing. If the items you are crafting
aren’t important, like are just interims and not the main refine, then you could easily just hit
a macro to push you through the item faster.
When you start a new macro, you put in the following code:
/useability <name of skill>
For instance, if you want to create a macro for lower level items, and you just want it done
quickly, then the tier 3 woodworking progress skills work well to accomplish these means.
Your macro could look like this:
/useability Chiseling
/useability Estimate
With that macro, you could run through lower level combines that aren’t important very
quickly. The same goes for combines you need to have pristine. Take the two tier 4
durability buffs Carving and Appraise. Often times, just hitting a macro with those two
skills can get you a pristine combine even on higher level recipes. Doing this will usually
cause the crafting process to take longer than normal, but with constant durability buffs,
you will almost never lose pristine. If you pay attention a little more closely while it’s going
on, and get some proper counters in there as well, it will make it go much quicker.

EQ 2 Woodworking Guide-2.3.5.Crafting in Detail

When you click on that create button, several things start to happen. What players refer
to as crafting rounds startup. These rounds are roughly 4 seconds in length. When ever
crafting round starts, EQ2 will calculate a success chance which is generally pretty high
unless you used a reactive art to lower your next success rate chance. On a success,
your progress (blue bar) raises, and usually your durability (green bar) lowers.
There are several types of failures and successes that can happen to start a round. The
bane of your existence will be the Critical Failure, which lowers your Durability by 100, and
Progress by 50. A normal failure lowers your Durability by 50. A success which is the
most common, lowers your durability by 10, and increases your progress by 50. The best
round you can get is one of a Critical Success which increases your Durability by 10, and
your Progress by 100.
You’ll notice that you have 4 levels of the item you are crafting. As you start the crafting
process, your progress bar starts filling up at the top, and as it fills the row, it moves down
to the next row. Your durability bar starts from the bottom, and becomes less and less as
the crafting process goes on. If the durability bar becomes so low that the bottom level
has none, it will cease to exist and the durability will continue to decrease from the 3rd
level.
When a round starts, not only do you have to worry about durability, and progress, but you
have to worry about crafting events. They appear at the bottom of the tradeskill window.
You have to hit the proper buff to counteract the event or it could have negative effects
including hp loss, durability and progress reduction.
You can also use your reactive arts even without a crafting event icon displayed. You just
have to be sure you know what you are doing. There is no need to continually waste
power on a durability buff if your durability is already maxed out. I describe the process in
which to always gain pristine in section 5.3.
